I’m always faced with this question with each perspective client I meet with–how much do I charge for handling a divorce or other family law case in the Tampa Bay area? For divorce cases, my initial retainer is approximately $3,000-$5,000, which does not include the filing fees. Upon scheduling a consultation and getting into the details of your case, I can pinpoint more accurately to determine your fees and help you budget.
You will receive a monthly statement from my office along with copies of all work that’s been done on your case so you know how your money is being spent. I will not “surprise” you by scheduling depositions or expert witnesses without your permission. You will always know where you stand with your budget, and I aim to be as cost-effective as possible because I know a divorce in and of itself is a financial draining process.
There are times, however, when one party can recover attorney’s fees and costs from the other party. Fees are usually ordered based on the need of one party and the ability of the other party to pay so that both parties are equally able to hire attorneys. However, there are other times when additional attorney’s fees can be granted–for instance, when one party files frivolous pleadings or doesn’t act in good faith. You should consult with an experienced family law attorney regarding being awarded attorney’s fees and costs in your case.
My fee for Tampa Bay divorce cases also depends on how litigious the case is, if children are involved, how many assets are involved, and if the parties are willing to work together in any fashion to negotiation timesharing, alimony or child support if applicable. My office always gives clients a fact sheet on how to save costs, a packet of information about the important key words utilized in family law cases, and instructions from the beginning to start on all parenting plans, financial disclosure and all other requirements that must be met by the Court. Clients leave our low cost consultations knowing what to expect from beginning to end in a divorce case and of course my office is just an email, phone call or an appointment away. We always keep you informed.
I charge a flat fee of $1,500 or $2,000 for uncontested Tampa Bay divorce cases, which are when the parties are able to work together and come to an amicable agreement. I am often able to complete those cases in less than a month, and although I can’t represent both parties in a divorce, I can draft a Marital Settlement Agreement, negotiate it with the opposing party, and I’m willing to make small changes to the agreement as need be per your request. You can avoid awkward last minute negotiations through using an attorney while still having an inexpensive, uncontested case which leaves both parties on amicable terms. The flat fee for the Tampa Bay uncontested divorce cases includes not only the properly Marital Settlement Agreement being drafted, but the other pleadings that must be drafted on your behalf and attendance with you at the final hearing to finalize your case.
